THE DAHL DIFFERENCE

Ford may unveil an RS version of Ford’s new-generation Focus which would be powered by both a turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor to power its rear axle. This would provide the car an all-wheel drive setup. However, the Focus RS has not yet appeared on the auto maker’s confirmed future model cycle documents. The success of its current model has prompted the management at Ford to keep the project in the pre-development phase.

Derrick Kuzak, Global Development, Ford, had stated that the company would build a “global performance version” of the all-new Focus during the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year. Also, Autocar has reported that senior sources within Ford have confirmed that the Team RS has started early conceptual studies to match the 2.0-litre Ecoboost engine with an electric motor on its rear axle. This layout is tailor-made for a high-performance car as it enables the use of a comparatively small-capacity engine. However, the strong torque from the electric motor awards the car a great boost in performance. Sans the conventional set-up using a power take-off and propshaft, it is a great all-wheel drive.

The much-talked about hybrid Focus RS should be able to match the performance of the current Focus RS500. However, it would also come with much-improved economy and lower CO2 emissions. Team RS will look at the auto maker’s current hybrid drivetrain if the electrified rear axle makes it into Ford’s forward engineering plan. It is used by the Ford Fusion (Mondeo-sized) in the US right now. Currently, the hybrid drive a 156 bhp 2.5-litre engine and an electric motor, which delivers 191 bhp to the front wheels and the next gen system is expected to be more efficient.

The all-new Ford Focus comes as a surprise to the automotive industry. With a starting price of $16, 690, the Focus is ranked in the class of ‘Affordable Small Cars’ by the U.S. News & World Report. However, the affordable price of the Ford Focus is not the only thing that has consumers raving over the Ford sedan this holiday season.

When President Obama mandated that automakers increase their average fuel economy for passenger cars to 39 mpg by 2016, he must have been thinking about the all-new Ford Focus. In a time where every penny counts, owners of the Ford Focus come closer than any of its top competitors making it the logical choice for fuel efficiency. By building a smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic vehicle, the folks at Ford were able to create a 2010 model close to future fuel economy standards. With the 2010 Ford Focus you will be sure to save a bundle on fuel prices with the sedan’s EPA-estimated 35 mpg highway fuel economy.

The Ford Focus sedan is available in four trim levels: the Focus S, the mid-level SE, sporty SES, and the fully-equipped SEL. The Focus sedan was redesigned in 2008 and added a few notable features in 2010. First, AdvanceTrac electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes are now standard for all Ford models as well as Remote Keyless entry, Securilock Passive Anti-Theft system, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.  Secondly, the Ford Focus introduces MyKey which gives parents the ability to set limits on stereo volume and vehicle speed via a computer chip in the key. Last, but certainly not least, is Ford’s SYNC voice-activated system. Ford’s SYNC’s voice-activation system for phones and MP3 players not only includes a GPS-based navigation feature which has the ability to supply live traffic reports, directions, and vehicle service updates, but also includes 911 assistance in the event of airbag deployment.

If you reside in Iowa the Ford Focus is the perfect choice for you and your family. Not only is the Focus a fuel efficient car for your Iowa travel plans, but its newly-added features such as MyKey and Ford SYNC make it a safe and enjoyable ride for every member of the family.
